Our Team
Antony Elliott FCIB spent over 10 years as Group Risk Director of Abbey National plc having worked for a number of UK and international banks previously. He had overall responsibility for the control of consumer credit risk throughout this period.
After he left in 2003, he researched and produced a report on why people get into too much debt. Entitled, ‘Not waving but drowning: over-indebtedness by misjudgement’, it was published by the Centre for the Study of Financial Innovation in 2005 and was widely discussed at the time. The research and education based charity, FairBanking, was founded by him in 2008. It has commissioned research into the link between a person’s money management and their level of contentment or financial well-being. The research has been developed to consider the implications for banking products and services. Antony wrote the report, which was jointly published with the CSFI in 2009 (Fairbanking: the road to redemption for UK banks) and the research was developed further in the report: ‘Fairbanking
ratings: socially useful banking’ (2010). In addition, he was lead author of the report for the Consumer Financial Education Body published in July, entitled “Transforming Financial Behaviour”.
He received a BSc in Banking and International Finance from City University and an MSc in Operational Research from Imperial College, London.
